It all seemed like a bright idea, in the colds of winter having the opportunity to buy my lovely wife a sweet present (spending my hard earned savings) on Take That! Not taking in to consideration two factors. Number one the tickets were for Sunderbloodyland, and two I don’t particularly like Take That… My clever friend has decided that it is an easy ‘five hour’ drive each way, so that is ten hours in the back of the car to see and then escape from Take ‘Fucking’ That!!!
But it does seem to have put smile on Ellie’s face

Wooly Edge Service Station, it has been decided that Wooly Edge is the most down trodden and depressing Service Station ever built. It may have been the most cutting edge service station in the country in the 70′s but it could really do with a face lift now! This is also the place where I have realised I am getting old as I just refused to buys sandwich as it was going to cost £3.95 for an egg sandwich!!!!
Now this one’s a classy service station and what reinforces my slipping into older age is my pleasure at seeing an M&S!
Have made it to take that! Parking was easy, walking to the stadium piece of piss, queuing to get in not too bad, unfortunately we have to actually watch them now!
There is a Definate split of people here, the ‘original’ take that fans, early forties and still holding on to the dream of Gary Barlow wanting them (despite te fact they are now 16st and have a good beard growing) very young entering inot their first Take That reunion, the odd normal people and then the unhappy looking men that have been dragged alng by one of the first two groups. It is Definately a very mixed crowd.
I have got to say that although TakeThat are not actually high on my desert island disk list, the show was actually very entertaining. Not musically so much, more the actual entertainment value and the production it self. There has obviously been a lot of thought, time and money that has gone into the show and considering it was the first night it went off without a noticeable hitch.
Some were surprised that the first half was split into two parts, first bit was take That without Robbie and they were very good, the second part was Robbie belting out some of his old hits ( which were very good, especially taking into account that he had not performed live at a concert for over six years and in the intervening years had become addicted to Drugs and Double Deckers).
Then second half of the show was the original 5 members of Take That belting out new and old songs to a jumping crowd. There did appear to be a little bit of limelight grabbing at times, and I am not really sure if all of the 4 were overjoyed to have Mr Williams back, but they performed well and had the crowd singing and dancing along.
I will say though it was bloody cold, and the stage did seem a long way away, we decided we were to old to do the standing up bit at the front, mainly because there was the chance of knocking over the old and frail or stepping on the ‘Take That’ fans who were aged between 6 and 16.
The alcohol was certainly flowing with abundance, and it was highly entertaining watching people concentrating incredibly hard to stand up/ walk, so much so I recon many didn’t even notice the show it self.
All said and done, it was a good show, worth the money and all of us left the Stadium of Light able to agree that it had been most entertaining…
I was going to write a little about the journey home here but I feel it deserves a page unto itself.
